Charge Your Car 4+

Having the ability to see local and specific locations for planned trips in terms of charging stations is great but the app and layout need to be updated. Best way is to see other apps and see how to make it look better and easier to use plus car specific would greatly help to show best charger. The ability to use your credit or debit card to charge your vehicle is standard but the app should show instructions as a small animation as for someone who has bought a new electric vehicle and never used a charger especially without a smart card I would feel it would not use a debit/credit card.

My recent trip to Scotland left a lot to be desired. The first mistake was I didn’t realise I needed the app to charge etc as Northern Ireland is still free. The staff on the phone rather nicely let me start charging and I went to a cafe for WiFi downloaded app etc. Next stop Dunfermline spent ages trying to locate the charger then on the app trying to start it eventually had to ring again and they couldn’t get it started . Staff on the phone weren’t as helpful this time and told me they weren’t a helpline to locate the next nearest working charger!!!! I was eventually directed to a rapid charger in an industrial park 5miles out. Next charger in Falkland wouldn’t give my cable back had to ring again. On way back to ferry planned to go to Glasgow get a rapid charge and avoid fast chargers. First one out of order. Second one wouldn’t start so rang helpline again asking for directions to a third and could they check if it was working again not that helpful until I said your faulty system is going to make me miss my ferry that I got a little support. Was able to get a third in the direction of the ferry working not an overall great experience of Scotland’s charging system . Luck I did stop as rd works on the way back had the rapid charger near girvan blocked.

Downloaded at a charger in York. App downloaded quickly but the app feels very out of date. None of the fields would auto-populate or prompt iPhone suggestions, so the required entries were laboriously typed in. Additionally, there was two connectors, on in use (physically but also connected and charging based on the display on the unit itself). The app, however, said both were available and they aren’t numbered 1 and 2 or left / right, so I didn’t know which to start charging too. After all of that, I entered my card details, which saved correctly, but when I entered my CVV I got a 404 error that the server couldn’t be contacted. (Had 4G, so that’s not the issue.) Resisting the urge to give up and park elsewhere, I added a second card. Same issue: error after entering the CVV. Utterly tedious. It would have been less irritating had the initial sign up not been so tedious. Tried to call the number shown on the unit but it was engaged. What a surprise! Utterly useless app and service all round.
